Nora is a woman devoted for her family but then again gloats to her friend about all of the positive things that will happen to her, while Ms.Linde describes to her the hardships she encounters after the death of her husband. Nora seems to have a deeper obsession with macaroons, because internally it symbolizes a sign of power. The macaroons shows what little authority she has left to keep secrets from her husband and be defiant against him. The rest of Act 1 has background information about the other characters.

Act 1 opens up with an disdain relationship between the man characters Nora and her husband Torvald Helmer. Other characters including Ms. Linde (Nora's friend) Dr,Rank (The family's friend), Mr. Krogstad (worker from the bank and lawyer). Torvald who degradingly looks down upon Nora calling her "my little skylark". And "feather brained". It goes to show that based on this time era women were looked down upon and treated differently from men. Nora whos is *frivolous* with money. She is only open to her friend Kristina Linde who come after hearing that Toravald will get an *advancement*in his job.

I agree with you Josue that Torvald looks down upon Nora
ReplyDeleteGreat job Josue.
ReplyDeleteI agree that women were looked down upon and treated differently during the time era this took place in.

They represent the many lies that Nora hides, and, like you said, they are limited in their lifespan, and the "taste" doesn't last very long, as good as they may seem to taste for a short moment. One more thing I realized about macaroons is that, because of their sugar, it's hard to only eat ONE...

ReplyDeleteI agree with what you discussed in this. Torvald does look down on Nora. He doesn't seem to treat her equally or at least even with any sort of respect. Although, I feel like Nora doesn't talk back and accepts it because she knows she is keeping these big secrets against Torvald and who knows, maybe on day she will have enough and tell Torvald about all of these secrets out of spite. That is if Krogstad doesn't tell him first since he is blackmailing her!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Josue.
